Social media guru say that the key to #online #success is to be yourself and be spontaneous but can you really be yourself and spontaneous all of the time when you have all of the time a phone camera in your face or recording everything you do because you have to produce content for your followers that can’t wait for your next gag? Well, most of the #trueself online heroes seem staging most of what they post online, most of what we see are plastic poses, we live a staged life.
#socialmedia as empowering tool of the #self is hard to believe. we are no freeing our true self but just constructing an #online version of it which we are more comfortable to go by with. Is there something more political than a selfie at the moment? It is further more relevant from a socio/politcal point of view than just being a mere self-portrait, it is a document of mass self-social narration and a track of many individual daily behaviors, routines and places visited and taste for things. Selfie is not just a picture, …selfie is mass control, a human record, a self created way of mass monitoring. As an artist I need to bear my share of the blame for selfie.
