The ghost images of D.B.🥀🪞 | BÆUTY IS CH∆ØS are an absolute expression, faceless. They are the opposite of artistic beauty as a mere commodity. These portraits tell of the inability to accept social norms (and those of beautification) in the face of mass alienation and the anxiety of living.

This glitch art collection challenges traditional notions of perfection and the standard of beauty presented on social media platforms like Instagram, where beauty influencers present a curated and often unrealistic version of perfection. This project embraces imperfection and presents beauty in its raw and unpredictable form by glitch-erasing the photos' original subjects and turning those images into artworks depicting unrecognizable and unknown figures. The redemption of the atypical, the marginated, the excluded ones, those who are believed to be the "losers" just because do not fit the beauty standard of success and wealth. The artist sees beauty as a cause of chaos and disrupts the classical thought of beauty in art as harmony and equilibrium that also relates to nature, society, and the whole universe. Our culture of beauty generates social chaos, often pushing people to commit extreme acts against others against themselves.

This art project re-codes beauty and all of its meanings. It challenges the societal standards of perfection and beauty. Using a glitch art technique, the artist erases portraits and selfies of Instagram influencers from the beauty and wealth industry who promote their image as a symbol of success and perfection. These influencers adhere to strict photography standards and use programmed filters to create the illusion of flawlessness. But with the use of glitch art and generative glitch script, the artist deconstructs these digital images, erasing the original and creating a new sense of beauty that defies fake perfection. This glitch aesthetic represents a reclaiming of the right not to be perfect, and a celebration of atypicality, uniqueness, and rarity. It sends a message of inclusivity, advocating for diversity and a departure from the constraints of beauty industry standards.

Choose life. Choose a fucking Instagram feed. Choose hashtags. Choose filtered faces, perfect smiles, and a digital glow that'd make God himself jealous. Choose likes, followers, and a beauty standard so polished it'd cut your eyeballs. Choose a world that is staged like a cheap reality show, where everyone's an actor and no one's real. But what about the raw, the imperfect, the shit that makes you human? Forget that. See, I am an artist, right? An outsider, an oddball, a vandal. I take my glitch as a blade to this perfect world, smashing the code, reprogramming the whole damn thing. I am using glitches, not just some fancy filter, but real fucking glitches, to rip apart the beauty myth, and show you what's underneath. I erase those candy-coated faces to create ghost images. I am doing this to show you a world that ain't just divine, but real, advocate for inclusivity, fucking rare. So, choose life, yeah? But choose a different life. Choose to break down the walls, embrace the imperfections, the shit that makes you, you. Choose a new origin, a miraculous one, where beauty ain't some fucking mirage of yourself on a fucking screen. Choose your future. Choose life.*

Beauty as a formula, a programmed/coded paradigm, is defeated and erased.
Each portrait of the series is created by downloading the photos of beauty influencers from Instagram. By using glitch art Databending and generative scripts, the original images are erased, and with it also their programmed/standard photographic gestures and canon of beauty.
Once influencers disappear from the images, what we have left are lost souls in the machine with no identity. They live in our society's short circuits and our toxic paranoiac idea of beauty because beauty is chaos.

Ten works were exhibited at Galleria Biffi Arte in Piacenza as part of the Disordinary_Beauty gallery show. The show was produced by Fuori Visioni with the support of the Banca di Piacenza and presented in Italy from 5 November to 28 November. The two main works of the show were Unknown 24 and Unknown 25.
